 WHAT IS RADON?

Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that occurs naturally. As the gas moves up through the soil it can enter buildings through the foundation and accumulate.

Radon is a class-one carcinogen and has been linked to lung cancer.

In the US, Radon is responsible for more deaths annually than fires and drunk driving combined.

The US Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States - only cigarette smoking causes more lung cancer deaths. If you smoke and your home has high radon levels, your risk of lung cancer is especially high.

The E.P.A. has determined the acceptable level of radon in a home to be 4 PicoCuries per liter of air.  The only way to know your level is to test.

RADON IN NEVADA AND CALIFORNIA
The California Department of Health Services has found that roughly 52 percent of homes in South shore Tahoe are above the E.P.A.'s recommended action level of radon.  The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension reports 35 percent of homes tested in Minden and Gardnerville have elevated levels of radon.

"You can't predict which homes will have high radon levels," said Adrian Howe, radiation physicist for Nevada State Health Division. "Two neighboring homes can have very different radon levels. Variables that determine radon levels include how the home was constructed, lifestyle factors and the strength of the radon source beneath the house. The only way to know a building's radon levels is to test."

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT RADON?
Radon can be virtually eliminated in a home by collecting the gas from under the home and venting it above the roof line.  Dependable Home Solutions can effectively fix most any home no matter what the foundation type .  After performing dozens of mitigations over the last few years Dependable Home Solutions has an average post mitigation radon level of 1 Pico Curie per liter and has never failed to get a home below the EPA action level of 4 Pico Curies per liter.
